Let’s get the big question out of the way: What is an A-frame sign, and where did it get its name?
An A-Frame sign is a double sided, freestanding sign with a two faces mounted onto two frames which have legs. There’s a hinge at the top and a stay in between the two frames, which allows the legs to move slightly outward, creating the shape of the letter A, hence the name.
Seen above is a typical A-frame, at the standard size of 900mm high x 600mm wide. Our A-frame signs also have a carry handle to make it easier to take in and out, while we can also option the A-frames with wheels.
Typical sizes are 900x600mm, 1200x900mm and 1800x1200mm.
The question is whether you need one or not. If you have a shopfront and you want to catch passing traffic during your shop hours, then an A-frame sign would be great to have. It’s especially handy to have a sign you can put out at the start of the day and then take in when you’ve finished. Lately, a lot of people have been buying them for the Covid-19 pandemic.
If you want the sign to remain outside permanently, then perhaps a freestanding metal sign might be better, which we also make. Head to our contact page to request more information of freestanding signs.
Personal or business?
A-frame signs are a great addition to most retail businesses, and as they are made from hard-wearing metal, and powdercoated, you can be sure they’ll last for many years. If you work from home, then maybe something a bit smaller like a roster sign may be better. Or even a corflute A-frame, which we discuss below.
The benefits of A-frames are numerous: They’re strong, tough, long-lasting and portable, and with plenty of substrate options (metal, corflute, etc) you can have an A-frame sign to suit your needs.
Seen above is an A-frame sign that is out the front of City Barn in Malaga, and being on the road-side, it’s big. At 1800mm x 1200mm it’s able to be seen from several hundred metres away.
That’s the sort of impact we can offer.
A-frame signs aren’t all created equal, though. That’s why you need to choose Perth Graphics Centre for your A-frame needs. Here’s why.
A-frame Quality
Our A-frame signs are created using high quality metal components. The frames are galvanised, the hinges are strong and the handle is built to withstand knocks and hits. With powdercoated faces or signwhite faces, we can ensure your A-frame lasts for years. The signwhite faces are actually made from colorbond – and there’s also an aluminum composite panel option – both of which are designed to withstand years of punishment.
If you’ve bought A-frame signs previously, you’ll know that they need to be sturdy so as to not blow over in the wind. Perth Graphics Centre’s A-frame signs are just that – sturdy.
We also have corflute A-frame signs available, which use a sheet of corflute for the faces. This makes it easy to change over and are perfect for promotional activity or quick-change signs. Just be aware, that because corflute is lighter, the whole A-frame will be lighter, so if you want the sturdiest A-frame to last in the wind, the metal A-frame signs are the best way to go.
What can you put on an A-frame?
You can have vinyl-cut lettering, full colour signs or any combination of the two.
We also can make blackboard A-frames and whiteboard A-frames where the faces of the A-frame signs are covered in blackboard or whiteboard vinyl.
Seen above is one of the flip-fold A-frames, and is perfect for real estate signage, temporary signage or advertising signage. The face size is 600mm x 450mm which means it will fit into the boot of a car with no issues.
We are often asked if we do corflute A-frames and more often than not people are referring to Roster Signs. But corflute A-frames are actually what you see below.
They are an A-frame which takes corflute inserts. The corflute insert sits inside a groove on the inside of the frame and allows the A-frame sign to be changeable. This means it’s perfect for announcement signs, sale signs or other signs where you need to change its message often.
The usual sizes for corflute A-frames are 600mm x 900mm and 900mm x 1200mm. If you would like a corflute A-frame, then please email us or call us for a quote.
Are A-frames heavy?
Not really. The beauty of an A-frame is its able to be moved if necessary, but still has enough strength to withstand light wind and rain. We have carry handles on the top of all our A-frames, except the largest size (1800mm x 1200mm) which can have the handle on the side along with wheels as an option.
This allows you to roll it out the front of your shop. For the largest size, you’ll need someone with a bit of strength.
What are the most common sizes?
A-frames come in four different sizes:
- 600mm (W) x 450mm (H)
- 600mm (W) x 900mm (H) – pictured above
- 900mm (W) x 1200mm (H)
- 1200mm (W) x 1800mm (H)
That said, we can also make custom sizes, like the one above, which is a 600m x 600mm face size. The most popular size is 600mm x 900mm, which is easy to carry, yet large enough to be read. Below is a 1200mm x 900mm which is in landscape form, a custom size, due to the frame and handle attachment.
Because A-frames catch passing traffic, we usually suggest keeping the message simple. Something like a heading, bold prices and a very brief description, or even just a logo and a phone number.
With interchangeable corflute faces, you can have specials which you rotate month by month.
Discounts are available on large quantities, and custom sizes are available. For details, check out our contact page to send us an e-mail, or give us a call on (08) 9248 6226.
